Common questions
Will the maps work with no signal?
Yes, for areas you save first. On the map, tap + and choose an area while you still have signal; satellite and topo maps for that area then work anywhere. Tracks, camps and surf breaks are built into the app and always work offline.
Recording stopped when my phone was locked
- In Settings › OutYonder › Location, choose Always and turn on Precise Location.
- Turn off Low Power Mode while recording, if you can.
- If the app is closed, open it again and the recording carries on from where it was.
Directions keep telling me to turn around
They shouldn't. Once you leave the route OutYonder stops re-routing and only shows how far you are from it. Tap Re-route from here when you want a new route.
Are the tide times official?
No. OutYonder's tides are worked out from a sea level model, so they can be off by a bit. Use the Bureau of Meteorology's official tide times for anything that matters, like crossing a bar or a beach that's cut off at high tide.
Is a track on the map open and legal to drive?
Not necessarily. Tracks come from OpenStreetMap and can be closed, seasonal, private or need a permit. Check with the land manager (parks, the shire or the landholder) before you go.
My alarm didn't go off
- Open the Alarms tab and allow alarms if it asks.
- Make sure Focus or Do Not Disturb isn't silencing OutYonder.
- Check the alarm is on and set for the right days.
Which map files can I import?
Georeferenced PDFs (GeoPDF), GeoTIFF images (.tif), GPX and CSV point lists.
How do I delete my data?
In the app, go to Me › Privacy & data › Delete all my data, or delete the app.
Is it free?
Yes. OutYonder is free, with no ads and no in-app purchases.
